What Are Your Top 10 Favorite Android Apps?

After doing a little digging around, via Google today, we found several sites sharing, what they believed, were the top Android apps. While we suppose that this boils down to nothing more than varying opinions, we did find a few sites that were on point with some of the more popular applications. Here is our list of top Android apps to start 2012:

1.) Angry Birds – Search any app through Google trends, right now, and Angry Birds is the most searched application that we can find. After looking at great length we couldn’t find numbers that came close to the search demand for this bird slinging, pig squashing sensation. It’s so popular, in fact, that we dedicated our first blog post to it.

2.) Google Plus, Facebook, Twitter (YAWN) – Right there listed as the top Android apps, on many sites and niche blogs, are the social media applications. To us, these are kind of a “DUH!” Social apps are to Android or iPhone as Notepad and Internet Explorer are to Windows. Nonetheless, we will give them their due. I’d be lost without my Facebook app.  Come to think of it, I’d probably be lost without Android. Too bad you can’t get the OS for lap top.

3.) Google Music – This is the number one on the  top Android apps list created by the New York Times website. This music service gives you the ability to upload 20K plus songs from a PC or a Mac, directly to the cloud. The Android app instantly syncs your tunes and play lists. It is reported that Android Market has recently features many of the more popular songs for free while offering millions of other titles for as little as 49 cents each.

4.) Face Lock – This is interesting. I have an Android phone and I’ve never even heard of this, much less actually used it. As the name of this top Android apps selection indicates, the app gives users the ability to unlock their phone with their face. It sounds and looks like a pretty cool security feature so we added a video here to show you how it works.

5.)  Astro – This top Android apps selection is a Windows style file explorer.  If you want to browse your SD card like a flash drive then this app is for you.  We wouldn’t recommend this for those who may not have a complete understanding that one wrong move and you could seriously mess up your phone, but for the tech savvy folks who like to tinker, you might like this free app.

6.)  Tweet Deck – I’ve been a avid fan of Tweet Deck, for the PC, for years but was not thrilled with it for Android.  Nonetheless it’s popping up as a top pick an many sites with lists of top Android apps.  This is one of those top Android apps that requires some space on your SD card to function properly and is a little sluggish when running other apps, in my experience, but it is a convenient way to stay connected to Twitter, Facebook and more.

7.)  Where’s My Droid – So you’re at the mall shopping for shoes when your phone rings.  Aunt Betsy has called to inform you that her little dog FiFi has run off and she needs your help to find her.  You quickly box up the shoes, head to the register, swipe your credit card and run out the door.  About half way to Aunt Betsy’s, you spot FiFi trotting down the sidewalk.  You pull over, leap out of the car, grab FiFi and continue on your way to Aunt Betsy’s.  After dropping FiFi off you decide to head back to the mall.  Reaching for your phone to call Donna and see if she wants to join you for lunch, at the food court, you discover your phone is missing.  After locating a pay phone, you call hubby to have him track it with one of HIS top Android apps “Where’s My Droid.”  Just like magic, this top Android apps selection shows that you left it at the checkout counter at the shoe store.  Hubby calls the store and, sure enough, they have your phone.  It’s a good thing hubby was paying attention to the top Android apps on Applications Hub… ;) !!  All is well… the End.

8.) Google Maps – What would your Android phone be without a GPS? After reviewing several sites, Google Maps comes in as the most beloved of the top Android apps in the GPS category. I haven’t used this… I’ve been using something else, but after that “something else” lead me on a wild goose chase, recently, it’s time to give Google Maps a whirl.

9.) Google Voice – Also ranking number one on many sites is Google Voice. I know of several people who have switched from Skype to Google voice and I’m beginning to think that I should do the same thing. I have Skype for Android, and it’s great for text based messages and updates but it’s certainly not one of the top Android apps for voice. It’s hit and miss most of the time. Google Voice seems to be the logical alternative in the top Android apps for voice category.

10.) Office Suite Pro – Rounding out or top Android apps is a business productivity application known as Office Suite Pro. Office Suite Pro lets yo open, edit and save Microsoft Office files including Word and Excel 97-2010 documents, PDF viewer, plus open Powerpoint, ZIP files and more. We haven’t tried this one yet but it comes highly rated through AndroidTapp.com and other sites.

We hope you have found this list useful and we look forward to bringing you more information soon!

Happy shopping!
