Deceivingly Cuddly Happy Tree Friends

In checking out a topic to write on, I came across some whopping traffic numbers for Happy Tree Friends (or HTF for short). Here’s yet another topic I had never heard anything about. Imagine my surprise when I found that not only has Happy Tree Friends been around for quite a few years now, but this phenomenon is only growing! WOW! Those of you whom have been fans of HTF for some time are probably thinking I’ve been living under a rock these last few years. Well… hmmmm… maybe! But besides that, I’m sure I’m not the only person that has never heard of HTF. So let’s get to it.

Now if you have never heard of Happy Tree Friends before, pay close attention. See that image I have attached here with the seemingly cuddly and cute anthropomorphic characters? Well, these are some of the most violent cute beasts you would ever meet! Happy Tree Friends is NOT for the young. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone under the age of 16, personally. The online episodes are filled with violent, bloody and graphic images of dismemberment and the like. I was shocked when I watched a few episodes, but mostly because I had no idea what I was getting into. So be forewarned, these characters are not about being cute and cuddly at all!

Despite the violent nature of the web episodes, this series has swept the online community. There are now HTF games, dvds, phone apps, apparel, iphone and ipad cases and the list goes on. On top of that, there are COUNTLESS sites dedicated to HTF. In some ways, Happy Tree Friends reminds me of the old Ren and Stimpy cartoon that could only be found on cable and the phenomenon that followed. The only difference is that the internet wasn’t as popular back then as it is now. I have a feeling we would have seen the same online reaction to Ren and Stimpy that we are seeing now with HTF.

Until next time,
Tula and Rex

I’ll have to check this out. You just never know what will grab the attention of the general public. Nothing like cartoons brutalizing each other to captivate and mesmerize.
